Angela Kahveci – ‘Facta Est Lux’
Fused glass panel
£365
I was attracted to glass because I like using materials that can speak for themselves, and offer their own nature to a piece of work. I particularly like the fusing technique used in this piece, because of the way the glass melts in the kiln. This process makes me feel that something magical has happened to transform my work into something unusual, and it is actually very exciting when you first see a piece after firing and find out what you’ve got. For me making things is as much about the experience of making them as the finished object. The subject of this piece is intended to illustrate a personification of light. The positioning of the figure in the foreground and the use of strong colours is to show the nature of light entering the world. I have called the piece ‘Facta Est Lux’ (Latin for ‘There Was Light’), which seems appropriate language for an angel.
