Lindsay Telling ‘Dereliction, Destruction and Decay’ and ‘The Chapel’

Dereliction, Destruction and Decay

Glass – painted, acid etched, screen printed.

£150 (large work), £125 (smaller pieces)

This Trilogy was influenced by the War Artist John Piper who spent much of his time in Bristol during the Second World War capturing the essence of the bomb struck city.

The Courage Brewery Building in the centre of the city is the focus and three pieces have been created for this exhibition. Acid etching as a technique has been used for the largest and in doing so I have tried to capture the emotions experienced during aftermath of the Bristol Blitz.  The two smaller pieces of the same subject were created to compliment using screen printing and paint.

The Chapel

Painted and copper foiled glass

 £225

The Chapel is a free standing construct that has also been made with influences from the works of John Piper. John Piper worked closely with a maker called Patrick Reyntiens, who not only made Piper’s windows in All Saints Church, Clifton, but more importantly a window in the Chapel at Clifton College.   This piece is my interpretation of how I felt the Chapel may have fared after Second World War ruination and abandonment – Dereliction.

The Chapel today is a beautiful and fundamental part of the College’s life.
